ChexSystems Removal - 3 Point Strategy

The best way to deal with your ChexSystem issues is:

Don't Panic

If you follow this Strategy you can have your Name removed from their List

1. Get a copy of the record

Firstly, to be able to dispute information on your ChexSystems record, you’ll need to obtain a copy of that record.  The copy can be obtained calling ChexSysyems at (800)428-9623 and following their instructions.  It will take a few days to receive it from them. Bear in mind, credit reporting companies are far from perfect.  They do make mistakes and make many.  Unfortunately, a mistake that  ends up on a ChexSystems report can be a major problem for you.  If you notice any inaccurate information on your ChexSystems report, you are legally entitled to have it removed. The sooner you have it removed the sooner you can apply and open second chance checking account.

2. Review the Report

Once you receive the report, review it very carefully noticing ay issues.  You should note down any error or inaccuracy.  Next, think about what documentation you have available so you can prove the inaccuracy of these items.  Make sure you spend extra time on the items in the reported information section, because that's the information supplied to the banks.  Make sure you note any debts owed to banks that you know you have since paid.  There is where your proof of payment will come in handy.  It is not uncommon for a close review of the report to reveal an instance of identity theft. If this is the case, make sure you tell ChexSystems so it is removed.

3. Write a formal letter

It is important to get the inaccurate  information taken off your report as quickly as possible.  There is in fact a law called the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) that means you are legally allowed to dispute inaccurate information with ChexSystems and any other Consumer Reporting Agencies Maye sure you begin your dispute by sending a formal letter to ChexSystems outlining the errors on your report.  By sending a formal letter, ChexSystems is legally required under to reinvestigate those errors within a perido of thirty days.  However, if you send further information during that thirty day period to back up your initial letter, they may take a total of forty-five days.  The good part is if ChexSystems can’t verify the information that you disputed in your letter, ChexSystems have no legal option but to remove it from your record.

Note you are one of the unfortunate ones on the ChexSystems list, meaning you cannot open an account, it is important to spend some time looking for errors, and writing the letter to dispute them.   The only cost to is a little bit of time and the cost of mailing the letter. The upside of course if you are successful your record could be wiped clean.  Make sure you are clear and polite when you write to them. Also make sure your assumptions are accurate.  Also make sure you keep a copy of the letter.

Bear in mind that ChexSystems may contact you and request more information. If you don’t hear back from ChexSystems within thirty days, you’ll need to follow up.
